BAJA 2010 - DAY 03

Todays ride was gonna be a loop. We were gonna start off by doing the eastern half of the 22 Day Trail. The Prowler crew and Dale, went fishing earlier with Igor, Guillermos son. After we ate breakfast, we were walking back to the rooms to get ready for the ride, when one of they guys who was staying next to us from New Hampshire, said that someone had broke into his saddlebags and stole his GPS and Passport. We started looking at our bikes and a few of us noticed that we were missing some tools. We started walking around the motel and found a couple things but we were still missing some items. We looked around a little more and finally decided that were were just going to take the loss. More on that later.
We were now running behind schedule and were still going to try to get in over 120 miles. We headed down to the San Borja turnoff and headed out towards the trail head.

We got to the trailhead and were missing 2, Shane and dad.
We waited a little while and I decided i would go back and see where they were at. I went back and this is what I found.

There was a nasty wash that snuck up on him and I guess he rode a pretty good wheelie on the front wheel and didn't quite ride it out. He decided he was going to go back to Guillermos and take it easy. The rest of us decided to keep going.

While we were out riding, the fishermen, Dave, Charlie and Dale, were busy catching dinner. They caught around 24 Yellowtail ranging from 15 to 20 pounds each.

Dave had the cook at Guillermos prepare some Ceviche, Sashimi, and then just grill up some of the filets. I think most of us in the group would agree that it was one of the best, if not the best meal in Baja...EVER! It was that good.

They also caught the thief that stole the tools off of our bikes. We got everything back except Ricks sleeves off of his jacket.
We also made arrangements with one of Igors friends to haull the Prowler back to San Felipe. He came to the hotel later that night and we loaded it up in the back of his truck. Charlie and Dave were going to ride back to San Felipe in the truck and dad was going to ride the bike back. He was feeling a little stiff and thought it would be best to head back with Charlie and Dave.

This is what we woke up to at Alfonsinas

Todays ride started with a quick run out to Punta Final before jumping on the road to go see Coco. You could tell they had had a lot of rain due to all the flowers and grass that was growing in the desert.

Heres a couple shots of the Side X Sides from Cocos Road.

When we got to Cocos there was some others from the UTMA there so we didnt stay too long. We stayed long enough to get a picture, sign the book and drink a Coke.

We rode Cocos Road to Chapala Junction. There was a house just down from the Junction the had gas which came in handy. They had a couple kids that came out when they sold us the gas. The littlest girl was afraid of all of us with the helmets and gear on.

After fueling up we headed back to Chapala and hit the single track.

Shane

Keith, Rick, Chad and John

After the singletrack, we headed to BOLA Junction and saw this

Charlie said they were going along fine and all of a sudden it lost power a started making a real loud racket.
We ended up having to get the gas guy at BOLA Junction to tow it to Guillermos. He remembered Charlie from 2 years ago when he and Robert locked the keys to Ryans truck inside the truck.
Heres a link to the video of Dave and Charlies ride to Guillermos.

After we left the Prowler, we continued down the Highway and ran into the Jenkins Group.  They were having problems with one of the bikes.  I think they sheared off a woodruff key and Derrick had found a shop and was making a new one.  It apparently worked because the bike finished the trip.

We ended up going to Rosarito and taking the back entrance to San Borja Mission.

Finally made it to Guillermos

BAJA 2010 - SUNDAY - DAY 01 OF THE RIDE - SAN FELIPE TO GONZAGA BAY

Day one of the ride was quite uneventful. We tried to get away ASAP after the Service Project. We were only going 100 miles to Alfonsinas, but we wanted to make it before dark. we were suprised to see how much of the highway they have paved since last year. All but the last 25 miles to Gonzaga Bay is paved.

When we arrived at Alfonsinas, we found out that they had rented some of the rooms that I thought I had reserved earlier. Apparently we were a few beds short. We had 11 beds for 14 riders...oh well. Beats sleeping in the desert with a space blanket. This is how the conversation went between Shane and I.
Greg: Did you see who's sleeping in the same bed? Gross!!!
Shane: I don't want to look!

Dinner made up for the lack of beds.
